Ravindra Jain was an Indian music composer, lyricist and playback singer. He Started his career in the early 70s, composing for hit movies such as Chor Machaye Shor (1974), Geet Gaata Chal (1975), Chit Chor (1976), and Akhiyon Ke Jharokhon se (1978). He composed music for many films and TV shows based on Hindu epics including Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan (1987). He also wrote the lyrics for many of his famous songs. He was awarded Padma Shri in 2015 by Govt. of India for his contribution to Arts. 

Early Life and Education 

Ravindra Jain was born blind on 28th February, 1944 at Aligarh , U.P.,  to  Pundit Indramani Jain and Kiran Jain as the third child of seven brothers and one sister. He belonged to the Jain Community. His father was a Sanskrit Pundit and his mother was a home maker.

At young age, he started singing bhajans at temples. His father recognised his talent and sent him to stalwarts like G.L. Jain, Janardhan Sharma and Nathu Ram for formal education in music. However, this was just the beginning. Ravindra's love for music took him to Calcutta and then to Mumbai. He accompanied Prathibhushan Bhattacharya to Mumbai and composed the music for films like Kranthi and Balidaan.

Career

Ravindra Jain had been a great inspiration for many as he overcame his blindness to make a place for himself in the world of music. A highly respected figure, Ravindra Jain composed music for many blockbuster movies. His works include Saudagar (1975), Chit Chor (1976), Geet Gaata Chal (1975), Fakira (1976), Akhyon Ke Jharokhon Se (1978), Dulhan Wohi Jo Piya Man Bhaye (1977), Paheli (1977), Do  Jasoos (1975), Pati Patni Aur Woh (1978), Insaf Ka Tarazu (1980), Nadiya Ke Paar (1982), Ram Teri Ganga Maili (1985) and Henna (1991). He composed many religious albums in different Indian languages including Bengali and Malayalam. He composed music to several Television series. Some of his most popular works on TV are Ramayan, Shri Krishna ; Alif Laila; Jai Ganga Maiya; Jai Mahalakshmi; Sri Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh ; Sai Baba ; Jai Maa Durga ; Jai Hanuman ; Sankat Mochan Hanuman ; and Maha Kavya Mahabharat. His music for Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan was both iconic and outstanding.. 

Jain's career rocketed when he met the southern Indian singing legend K.J.Jesudas. He exploited the entire range of Yasudas' genius and the duo produced one hit after the other in the 1970's and 1980's. He named Yesudas as the "Voice of India". Jain once famously said that if he was ever to gain sight, Yesudas's face was the first he wished to see. Hemalata was another singer who featured prominently in Jain's compositions.

Personal Life :

For those thinking that true love is hard to find, you need to know Ravindra Jain's story. Ravindra Jain met Nirmala Jain during a promotional event for the film 'Saudagar' in Delhi,  but little did he know that he would meet his soulmate there. Nirmala's daughter and poetess Divya Jain, fell head over heels in love with him and the two got married. And the two were blessed with a son, Ayushman Jain. On the other hand, the film "Saudagar" was a big hit and  the song "Sajna hai mujhe' is still very popular. 

Ravindra Jain  died in Mumbai on 9 October, 2015 because of multiple organ failure.

Awards 

1. Ravindra Jain was awarded the  Filmfare "Best Music Director" award for Ram Tere Ganga Maili in 1985.

2. He  was awarded the Padma shri in 2015 by the Govt. of India for his contribution to Arts.            


28th February was Ravindra Jains Birth day Anniversary. As a tribute to him, Vividh Bharati, Mumbai broadcasted a special programme on him in their "Aaj Ka Fankar".
