REMEMBERING GEETA BALI
Geeta Bali was an Indian Film actress who appeared in Hindi language films. Geeta Bali was born as Harikirtan Kaur in Amritsar, Punjab, British India, on 30th November, 1930. She started her film career as a child actress at the age of 12 with the film "The Cobler". She made her debut as a heroine in Badnaami (1946).
Geeta Bali became a star in 1950s. She had also worked earlier with her future brother-in-law Raj Kapoor in Bawre Nain (1950) and with her future father-in-law Prithvi Raj Kapoor in Anandmath (1952). Unlike the other actresses who gave up films after marrying into the Kapoor family, Geeta Bali kept acting until her death. Her last film was 'Jab se Tumhe Dekha Hai' (1963). She did more than 70 films in a 10 year career.
Some of her noted films include Dulari (1949); Badi Bahen (1949); Bawre Nain (1950); Baazi (1951); Albela (1951); Jaal (1952); Anandmath (1952); Raag Rang (1952); Baaz (1953); Jhamela (1953) ; Vachan (1955); Kavi (1955); Milap (1955); Baradari (1955); Pocket Maar (1956); Jailor (1958); Aji Bus Shukriya (1958); Mr India (1961).
Personal Life :
On 23rd August 1955 Geeta Bali married Shammi Kapoor with whom she was acting in "The Coffee House" . They had two children, a son (Aditya Raj Kapoor) and a daughter (Kanchan), Geeta Bali died on 21st January1965 at the age of 34 due to smallpox in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
