REMEMBERING RAJ KAPOOR
To day 14th Dec. happens to be the 97th Birthday of Raj Kapoor, yester years famous actor, who was also known as the The greatest Showman of the Indian Cinema. He was one among the trio who ruled the Cinema field at that time (Raj kapoor , Dilip kumar and Dev Anand). 'The Kapoor family' also called "The First Family of Indian Cinema" is a family with at least 5 generations of descendants over 97 years in Indian film industry. Numerous members of the family, both biological descendants and those married into the family, have had prolific careers as actors, film directors and producers. The pioneer founder of the family was ' the Patriarch' Prithviraj Kapoor' , who was the first member of the family to begin acting in movies. His father Basheswarnath kapoor was also debuted as an actor in1951 in his grandson Raj Kapoor's film Awara.
Raj Kapoor was the most influential actor and director in Hindi Cinema.
Raj Kapoor :
Born Shrishti Nath Kapoor, also known as Ranbir Rajkapoor (14th December, 1924 - 2nd June 1988) was an Indian actor, film producer and film director who worked in Hindi Cinema.He received multiple accolades,including three National Awards and eleven filmfare awards in India. The Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award is named after Kapoor.He was A two time nominee for Palma d'or grand prize at the Cannes Film Festival for his films Awaara(1951) and Boot Polish (1954). His films attracted worldwide audiences, particularly in Asia and Europe. He was born into a Punjabi Hindu Khatri family in Peshawar, North West Frontier Province, British India (1924) and died in New Delhi, India (1988).His other names were Rabir Raj Kapoor, The Showman, The Greatest Showman of Indian Cinema, Charlie Chaplin of Indian Cinema, Raj Sahab.He had his education in colonel Brown, Cambridge, St. Xavier's Collegiate. He was active during the period 1935 - 88. He was married to Krishna Malhotra (m.1946 - 1988). His parents were Prithviraj Kapoor (father) and Ramsarni Mehra Kapoor (mother).
His father Prithviraj kapoor was also an actor, film director, producer, writer and politician.He was Rajya sabha member (nominated).Prithviraj Kapoor had 6 children (including Raj Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor).Raj Kapoor was married to Krishna malhotra (m.1946 -1988) He had 5 children (Randhir Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor,Rajiv Kapoor, Rima Kapoor, Ritu Nanda).
Govt. Of India honoured Raj Kapoor with the Padma Bhushan in 1971for his contributions in Cinema, the Dada Saheb Phalke Award was bestowed on him in 1987.

K.A.ABBAS :
Khaja Mohammad Abbas was a screen writer and director for a number of Raj Kapoor's best films viz : Awara (1951); Anhonee (1952), Shree 420 (1955), Jagte Raho (1956); Char Dil Char Raahen (1959), Mera Naam Joker (1970), Bobby (1973), and Henna (1991).
SHANKAR- JAIKISHAN :
Shankar- Jaikishan were Raj Kapoor's music directors of choice. He worked with them in 20 films in all including 10 of his own films from Barsaat until Kal Aaj Aur Kal ( Jagte Raho with Salil Chowdhury and Ab Dilli Dur Nahin with Dattaram Wadekar being two exceptions in this period). Only after Jaikishan died did he turn to a diffetent music director - Lakshmikant - Pyarelal for Bobby, Satyam Shivam Sundaram and Prem Rog. ( Later his children used Lakshmikant Pyarelal for Prem Granth as well), Rahul Dev Burman for Dharam Karam, Ravindra Jain for Ram Teri Ganga Maili and Henna. Raj Kapoor acted in a movie with music by Madan Mohan in Dhoon (1953) and Ashiana (1952) and only one movie with O.P.Nayyar (Do Ustad).
NARGIS :
Raj Kapoor and Nargis worked together in 16 films including 6 of his own productions. Aag (1948) Andaz(1949), Barsaat (1949), Pyaar (1950), Jan Pehchan (1950), Awara (1951), Amber (1952), Anhonee (1952), Ashiana (1952), Bewafa (1952), Aah (1953), Paapi (1953), Dhoon (1953), Shree 420 (1955), Chori Chori ( 1956), Jagte Raho (1956).
MUKESH AND MANNA DEY :
Mukesh was Raj Kapoor's almost exclusive singing voice in almost all of his films. Also, when Mukesh died, Raj had said ' Maine apni awaaz ko kho diya ... ( I have lost my voice ).' However Manna Dey has also sung many notable and superhit songs for Raj Kapoor, for eg. Shree 420, Chori Chori, Dil Hi To Hai, Mera Naam Joker, Parvarish, Teesri Kasam, Abdullah.
Raj Kapoor introduced the actresses Nimmi, Dimple Kapadia and Mandakini as well as launching and reviving the careers of his sons Rishi, Randhir and Rajiv. He introduced the music Directors Shankar Jaikishan and lyricists Hasrat Jaipuri and Shailendra.
Raj Kapoor died on 2nd June, 1988 due to Astma in Delhi.
