NARTANASALA (1963)

Nartanasala(1963) is an Indian Telugu language Hindu Mythological film directed by Kamalakara Kameswara Rao and produced by Actress C.Lakshmi Rajyam and her husband C.Sridhara Rao under the banner Rajyam Pictures.
Based on the Virata Parva of the Indian Epic Mahabharata, Nartanasala focussed on the trials of the Pandavas in the last year of their exile. The Pandavas assumed different identities and lived incognito in Viratas Matsya Kingdom.The Kauravas wished to reveal the Pandava's real identities so that they would repeat another exile of 13 years in cyclic fashion. The issues faced by the Pandavas and their wife Draupadi at Matsya due to various factors, notably Virata's brother-in-law Kichaka form the rest of the story.
The film has star cast of N.T.Rama Rao (asArjuna and Bruhannala), Savitri (as Draupati and Sairandhri), S.V.Ranga Rao (as Kichaka), Relangi (as Uttara Kumara), Dandamudi Rajagopal (as Bhima and Valala),Mukkamala (as Virata); Mikkilineni (as Yudhisthira and Kankubhatta), Soban Babu (as Abhimanyu), Dhulipala (as Duryodhana), Prabhakar Reddy (as Karna ),
Satyanarayana (as Dushasana), Allu Ramalingaiah (asVaalatulya), Vangara, Bodipati, Balakrishna and Ramakoti (as Asst. Cooks), L.Vijayalaxmi (as Uttara), Sandhya (as Sudeshna), Padmini Priyadarshini (as Urvasi) and Kanchanamala, Suryakantam, Kanta Rao (as Krishna), C.Lakshmi Rajyam (as Subhadra), Nellore Kanta Rao (as Jeemutha Mallu) appear in Cameo roles.
Samudrala Raghavacharya wrote the script for the movie, and Kamalakara Kameswara Rao directed the film. Susarla Dakshinamurthy composed the film's music.
Raghavacharya penned the lyrics. Ghantasala, S.Janaki, P.Suseela, M.Balamuralikrishna and Bangalore Lata were the singers.
The film was commercially successful.It is adjudged second best feature film at the11th National Film Awards. It won Filmfare award for Best Film (Telugu). Nartanasala is included in the April 2013 centenial of Indian cinema in CNN-News 18 list "The 100 greatest Indian films of all time".
