GUNDAMMA KATHA (1962)

Gundamma Katha (1962) is an Indian Drama film directed by Kamalakara Kameswara Rao and produced by B.Nagi Reddy and Aluri Chakrapani under their banner Vijaya Vauhini Studios. Partially inspired by William Shakespeare's comedy 'The Taming of the Shrew'. Gundamma Katha is official remake of the 1958 Kannada film 'Mane Tumbida Hennu'. It is also the first remake film by Vijaya Vauhini Studios.
It is the story of Gundamma, a rich widow who ill treats her selfless step daughter Lakshmi, who is reduced to working as maid. Lakshmi dotes on Gundamma's daughter Saroja, an arrogant woman who loves Lakshmi. The film's centre piece is formed by the way Lakshmi's suitor Anjaneya Prasad ('Anji') and Saroja's love Raja bring change to Gundamma's life after the couples marriages.
The film has Star cast of N.T. Rama Rao (as Anjaneya (Anji) Prasad), A.Nageswara Rao (as Raja), Savitri (as Lakshmi), Jamuna (as Saroja), Suryakantam (as Gundamma), S.V.Ranga Rao (as Ramabhadraiah), Rajanala (as Bhoopathi), L.Vijayalakshmi (as Padma), Ramana Reddy (as Gantaiah), Haranath (as Prabhakar), Chhaya Devi (as Durgamma), Hemalata (as Kannchu, Gantaiah's wife) and Allu Ramalingaiah ( as Iyer) Cameo appearance.
The film is NTR's 100th appearance and ANR's 99th. Aluri Chakrapani wrote the script for the film and Ghatasala compised the music. The sound track has Eight songs whose lyrics were written by Pingali Nagendra Rao. Ghantasala provided vocals for Rama Rao and Nageswara Rao; P.Suseela
and P. Leela provided the vocals for Savitri and Jamuna.All the eight songs were well received and were successful and enjoyed even today by the music lovers.
The film had 100 days run in 23 centers.
