MOOGA MANASULU (1964)
Moogamanasulu was awarded National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Telugu.It has won 1964 Filmfare Best Film Award (Telugu). This picture was remade in Hindi and directed by the same director as Milan (1967) starring Sunil Dutt , Nutan, Jamuna, Pran and Devan verma, for which Music was scored by Laxmikant Pyarelal.This film won Filmfare Best Actress Award for Nutan, Filmfare best Supporting
Actress Award for Jamuna, and Filmfare Best Music Director award for Laxmikant Pyarelal.
The film is among the earliest one to deal with the theme of reincarnation. It is about the story of two innocent loving hearts separated by the status difference, one is a simple boatman (ANR)(as Gopi) ferrying people to across the river Godavari, and the other, a Zamindar's daughter (Savitri)(as Radha),who studies in a college on the other side of the river, daily travelling in his boat. They love each other but could not express themselves. In between is caught another shepherd girl (Jamuna)(as Gowri), who is in deep love with Gopi, but not accepted by him. Radha and Gopi face conflicting problems and their life ends in a tragedy, however they get united in their next birth. But life of Gowry remains miserable, and she belongs to no where, becomes victim of social attrocities and gets solace finally by dying in the lap of Gopi who happens to arrive on taking the next birth. Oh! What a life of Gowri. Is loving a Sin. !!
The action and performance of all the three are Superb. The film has excellent music score by K.V.Mahadevan and the songs rendered by Ghantasala, Suseela and Jamuna Rani are superb.The lyrics are by the well known poets of Telugu film Industry - Acharya Atreya, Dasaradhi and Kosa raju.
The entire film was shot near Sakinetipalli of Konaseema region of East Godavari district, which is well known for scenic beauty.

My brother Viswanath's marriage took place in 1964 at Machilipatnam (Krishna District), also known as Masula / Bandar. My Sister-in-law's father Dr H.M.Rao was working as District Medical officer at Masula. Moogamanasulu was released that year, and we saw that picture at Machilipatnam
