CARPENTERS(1969 - 1983)

American vocal and Instrumental duo consisting of Sister Karen Carpenter and brother Richard Carpenter. Carpenters were the # 1 selling American music act of 1970. Though often referred to as " The Carpenters", carpenters 'melodic pop, produced record breaking run of hits. on The American top 40 and Adult contemporary charts, and they became leading sellers in the soft rocks, easy listening and Adult contemporary genres.To date Carpenters' album and single sales total more than 100 million units.
During their 14 year career, carpenters recorded 11 albums, five of which contained top 10 singles, 31 singles, five television specials and one short-lived television series.
Their recording career ended with Karen's death in 1983 from Cardiac arrest due to complications of anorexia nervosa.

TRIVIA:
Viswanath when he was at Delhi, was a regular listener of Delhi - B radio station, which used to broadcast english programme from 10 pm to 11 pm for the foreigners in Delhi. This song was being frequently played and he was then not knowing the singers or the name of the song. He was at a loss, but he didn't let it go and started asking his friends and finally caught hold of a Sardarji, who got the name through his friend working in Syndicate bank as Carpenters and 'yesterday once more'. Immediately he went to musical shop and purchased a cassette
When he came back from Delhi to Hyderabad, he brought his tape recorder and all his cassettes.I noticed Vijju singing ' la la la la', and I was attracted and when asked , she told Carpenters.I took out that cassette and started playing. Really it was so nice.The story went like that. Later through internet, I started collecting Carpenters songs.
