BERT KAEMPFERT(1923 - 1980)


Bert Kaempfert (born 16th October, 1923 and died 21st June 1980)was a German Orchestra leader, multi-instrumentalist, music producer, arranger and composer. He made easy listening and jazz-oriented records and wrote the music for a number of well known songs, including 'Strangers in the Night' and 'Moon over Naples'. Other songs are 'African Beat', ' A Swinging Safari', 'Wonderland by Night', 'Maltese Melody, 'Blue Spanish Eyes', 'Living it up' etc.and many more. He has released 55 albums.
As a multi-instrumentalist, Kaempfert was hired by Hans Busch to play with his orchestra before serving as a band man in the German Navy during World War II. He later formed his own big band team, toured with them and worked as an arranger and producer making hit records with Freddy Quinn and Ivo Robic. Kaempfert orchestra made extensive use of horns, the brass covered 'Magic Trumpet'.
In 1961, Kaempfert hired the Beatles to backTony Sheridan for an album called 'My Bonnie'. The album and its singles were the first Beatles commercially released recordings. In his capacity as a record producer, Kaempfert played a part in the rise of The Beatles
