DORIS DAY(1922 - 2019)
Doris Day (born Doris Mary Anne Kappelhoff) was an American actress, singer and animal welfare activist. She began her career as a big band singer in1939, achieving commercial success in 1945 with two #1 recordings- 'Sentimental Journey ' and ' My Dreams are Getting Better All the Time' with Les Brown and his band of Renown. She left brown to embark on a solo career and recorded more than 650 songs from 1947 to 1967. She has acted opposite many renowned actors during her career
Her noted songs include - " Fly me to the moon"; "Whatever will be will be" ; " Dream a little dream of me"; "Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps"; "A Bushel and a Peck", "Secret Love";"Sentimental Journey"; "It is Magic" and many more.
TRIVIA:
1. Everyone knows about the song "Qe Sera Sera", as it was so famous that the song was also used as it is, and sung by Bhanumati in Telugu movie 'Thodu Needa'.
Again, though I was knowing the song , the details of it I was not knowing. It was Venu who told us that Doris day's song was from Alfred Hitchcock's movie ' The Man Who Knew too much'.
2. When we attended Ravi Kiran's marriage at Bangalore, Tammanna arranged for our stay at HMT Guest house.Next day after fresh up we all gathered in Tammanna's house where all other relatives had gathered.we had lot of fun and frolic then. Soumya was the centre of attraction as she was active in dancing with the child of their opposite house neighbour. She was singing "Qe sera sera".
3. When I think of Soumya, another incident flashes me. They were in HMT quarters.My sister and Brother-in-law were also staying with them. I was a novice in computer operations and Soumya was making me learn so much. Kiran also used to show me some techniques.It is during this time that Soumya suggested me to see Richard Gere's movie "Hachiko, the dogs story". After coming back to Hyderabad, I downloaded that movie and saw that. It is a touching story. Soumya, once again I thank you for that. So far I didn't get the chance to meet you to convey. Thanks to WhatsApp and covid-19 we are getting closer.
